Between Knoxville And Atlanta Is An Underrated Georgia Mountain Lake With Scenic Camping And Trails
Nestled in the northern Georgia mountains, [[Lake Winfield Scott]] is an underrated 18-acre reservoir in the [[Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest]] offering peaceful camping, paddle- and electric-only boating, swimming and fishing (catfish, trout and bass), and easy access to trails that connect to the famed [[Appalachian Trail]]. Created in the 1930s by the [[Civilian Conservation Corps]], the campground has north and south loops with a mix of tent-only, standard non-electric and electric sites, plus a cabin rental for larger groups. Nearby attractions include [[Vogel State Park]] and scenic drives toward Helen and Brasstown Bald. Reservations run April through August on Recreation.gov, nightly rates vary, and the closest major airport for many visitors is [[Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport]], roughly a two-and-a-half-hour drive, making the lake a convenient outdoors escape between Atlanta and Knoxville.
