Calling BS on perfectionism | Boagworld

This post is a web designer's rant against the cult of design perfectionism, arguing that obsessing over detail wastes time and money, that "perfection" is too subjective to justify the arrogance it often carries, and that pragmatism suited to context, budget, and audience is the better standard. The author supports the case with a personal example: a deliberately simple, unpolished youth group site built in iWeb, which he defends as the right solution for a project with no budget and a small audience. It is worth keeping as a concise, opinionated counterpoint to the perfectionist ethos, prompted by Karl Mendes's earlier post and reinforced by a quotation from 37signals' *Rework*.

How to Make the Most of a Small Workspace

Small workspace design requires bold choices rather than timid minimalism—pick one strong color or feature rather than playing it safe with bland whites and neutrals. Beyond aesthetics, success depends on ruthless daily purging and smart organization based on how frequently you use items, combined with strategic use of vertical wall space and good lighting to make the area feel larger and more functional. The key is treating your entire desk as a "deal with it now" zone where clutter instantly becomes visible, forcing you to maintain systems that prevent the small space from becoming overwhelmed.

decor8 » Blog Archive » White Space

I appreciate you sharing this, but I'm not able to summarize what you've provided. You've shared what appears to be a blog post introduction or excerpt rather than a saved article with substantive content—it's mainly a warm welcome to a home tour with minimal actual description of the décor itself. To write a useful summary, I'd need the full article text that explains Sophia's design choices, specific décor elements in her white living room, or the actual design principles and ideas being discussed.

Annapurna Expedition 1970: Design Beautiful Retro Poster in Photoshop | webexpedition18

I can see a list of article titles and dates, but without the actual article content or summaries, I'm unable to write the summaries you're requesting. To provide the kind of substantive, two-to-three-sentence summaries you've described—ones that distinguish each piece from similar articles and explain why it was worth saving—I would need access to the full text of each article, not just the headlines and publication dates. If you'd like me to summarize specific articles, please share the content itself, and I'll be happy to write the summaries according to your guidelines.

5 Things to Consider When Designing Your Mobile App

This piece outlines five essential considerations for designing mobile applications: first deciding whether a native app or mobile website better suits your goals, then accounting for the specific contexts where users will engage with the app, designing scalable interfaces for varying screen sizes across devices, adhering to platform-specific UI conventions to ensure familiarity and consistency, and prioritizing touch-friendly design with accessible button placement and visual feedback. The guide emphasizes that mobile design differs fundamentally from web or desktop design, and successful apps require thoughtful decisions about these factors before and during development.

10 Reasons Not to Copy Amazon | Get Elastic Ecommerce Blog

Copying Amazon's design and business practices is risky because Amazon operates under fundamentally different conditions—massive scale, diverse customer base, complex marketplace model, efficient logistics, and deep pockets for experimentation—that make its strategies unsuitable for most retailers. The article argues that Amazon's apparent success often masks poor user experience that only loyal customers tolerate, and that design decisions Amazon makes for business reasons (like removing reassuring text to free up page space) get mistakenly adopted as best practices. Rather than benchmarking against Amazon, retailers should test their own site elements against their specific customers and business model.

Mensch -- A coding font

Apple's Snow Leopard introduced Menlo, a modified version of the Linux font DejaVu Sans Mono, as its new monospace typeface. The author, dissatisfied with several design choices in Menlo (particularly the slashed zero and the oddly-proportioned lowercase L), used FontForge to create a custom variant called "Mensch" with about a dozen tweaks including a circular zero, friendlier punctuation marks, larger angle brackets, and improved letter distinctiveness. The modifications maintain the open-source spirit of the original Bitstream Vera license while optimizing the font for code readability and aesthetic preference.

Simon Collison | Colly | The Celebrated Miscellany

I don't have a saved article to summarize for you. What you've shared is your own creative biography—a poetic timeline tracing your development as a designer, writer, artist and musician from 1973 to 2022, punctuated with musical references and formative moments. If you'd like me to summarize an article you've saved, please share the text or link to it, and I'll provide a concise summary explaining what it argues or reports.

20 Elegant Fonts for Clean Design | Freebies

I can see this is a comments section from a blog post about fonts, but I don't have access to the actual article content itself—only the reader comments praising various fonts like Sacre Blue, Adelle Basic, Sertige, and others. To write an accurate summary of what the piece argues or reports, I would need to see the original article text. Could you provide the article content or a link to it?
