Where you can share to
Every saved item has a Share block — unless you switch sharing out off in settings. The buttons in it open the other service's own composer, signed in as you, with the link and title already filled in. Nothing is posted until you post it.
A short list, on purpose
Small, independent places — and your own accounts on the apps you already keep.
No X, Facebook, Instagram, Threads or Pinterest
Not an oversight. Every one of those already has a share button on every page on the internet, and none of them is where the people this is built for are talking about what they read.
Your account, not ours
Athenana holds no account of yours on any of these services. Four of them open their composer and stop; the rest post with a token you gave, and only when you press the button.
The link, never the copy
What gets shared is the original address you saved — never Athenana's archived copy, its screenshot, or anything a machine wrote about it.
Not a walled garden
Nothing you save here is locked in. If you also keep Pinboard, Raindrop, Readwise Reader, Karakeep or MyMind, one press sends the link to your own account there — the same link, never a copy of it.
The places
Eleven now, chosen for who reads them. Every one links out — go and look.
Bluesky
Where a lot of the design and writing world went. Opens a compose window with your link in it, which Bluesky turns into a card itself.
Mastodon
Thousands of independent servers rather than one company. Tell Athenana which one is yours and the button appears — it sends you to your own instance, not to somebody else's.
RecLeague
Recommendations rather than posts — a small app for the things you would actually tell a friend about. The one place a picture goes along with the link, and only from an item you have published.
Are.na
A quieter place for collecting things, used heavily by designers and artists. Give Athenana a token and a channel and the button drops the link straight in as a block — Are.na does its own unfurling from the page.
micro.blog
Posts from here rather than opening a composer: the title and the link as a short post on your blog, with a token you gave — and a link back to what it wrote so you can edit it.
Pinboard
A bookmark in your own account, with its title, public or private by your Pinboard default. Posted from here with your API token.
Raindrop
A raindrop in Unsorted, with its title; Raindrop reads the page for its own cover. Posted from here with a test token of your own.
Readwise Reader
A document in your Reader library, which fetches the article for itself. Posted from here with your access token.
Karakeep
A bookmark on your own Karakeep server, at the address you gave. Posted from here with an API key from it.
MyMind
An object in your mind, through the same key you gave for importing from it. Something that came from MyMind and goes back is recognised there, not duplicated.
Hacker News
For the technical things. Goes to the submit page with the address and the headline already in it, so you only have to decide whether it is worth posting.
Send things the other way
One link, no key, nothing saved until the reader says so.
Put a “Save to Athenana” button on your site
Point a link at the address below with your details as query parameters. It opens the reader’s own Athenana with the fields already filled in — they review and save. Nothing is stored by following the link, and nobody needs an API key.

The parameters
url is required and must be an http or https address. title and tags are optional; tags are comma-separated. Encode each value once with encodeURIComponent — don’t double-encode a link that already has a query string of its own.

What the reader sees
If they are signed in, the save form with your details in it. If they are not, the sign-in screen — and then the same form, so nothing is lost. Anyone can follow it. Someone without an account is offered one, and the link waits for them until it’s made.
