Kentucky Derby Festival Race Weekend

The Humana Kentucky Derby Festival miniMarathon & Marathon is Kentucky's largest annual road racing event, taking place in Louisville on April 24, 2027, with participants running from Louisville Slugger Field through downtown neighborhoods and the infield of Churchill Downs before finishing near the Waterfront. The 2027 edition marks the 54th miniMarathon and 26th Marathon, and includes a new Friday 5K option that allows runners to complete all three races for a special third medal as part of the "KDF Race Challenge." The event enforces strict time limits (4 hours for the half-marathon at 15:00 per mile pace, 6 hours for the full marathon at 13:45 per mile pace) and does not permit walkers in the full marathon, though virtual participation is available for those unable to race in Louisville.

Breonna Taylor’s Life Was Changing. Then the Police Came to Her Door.

# Summary Breonna Taylor, a 26-year-old emergency room technician with no criminal record, was shot five times and killed by Louisville police during a March 2020 raid on her apartment that was ostensibly targeting her ex-boyfriend, a convicted drug dealer named Jamarcus Glover. The raid resulted from a flawed investigation: while police had legitimate evidence of Glover's drug operation at nearby addresses, their justification for raiding Taylor's apartment relied on thinner evidence—his GPS-tracked visits to her complex, her car appearing at a drug house, and bank transfers between them—leading to questions about whether probable cause existed. Taylor had distanced herself from Glover weeks before her death and was planning a future with her boyfriend Kenneth Walker, who fired one shot in self-defense when officers breached the door without adequately announcing themselves, prompting police to return fire; one officer was later fired for blindly shooting through her window from the parking lot, and no drugs or cash were found in her apartment.

Nearly 700 acres of Louisville parkland to open Friday - wave3.com-Louisville News, Weather & Sports

Nearly 700 acres of parkland at the Floyds Fork project in eastern Louisville opened to the public on Friday, completing about 40 percent of the overall development and roughly matching Central Park's size. The nonprofit behind the project has raised over $120 million and plans to finish the remaining sections by 2015, with about 7 miles of the planned 20-mile Louisville Loop Trail now accessible through the new parkland. Designers planted thousands of trees and positioned the park to accommodate Louisville's projected future growth, aiming to create a space that will remain attractive for a century.
